The Kwanzan cherry (Prunus serrulata ‘Kanzan’) is a beautiful flowering cherry tree prized for its abundance of double pink blossoms in early spring. These blossoms are typically deeper pink than other flowering cherry varieties and are complemented by the emerging bronze-red foliage. As the leaves mature, they turn a glossy green and remain throughout the summer before transforming into vibrant shades of orange and red in fall. The Kwanzan cherry is a deciduous tree, reaching heights of 20-30 feet with a similar spread. It has a rounded to vase-shaped canopy that matures over time.

The main attraction of the Kwanzan cherry is its stunning springtime display of pink blossoms, making it a popular choice for adding ornamental interest to landscapes. The flowers attract bees and other pollinators, beneficial for the ecosystem. With its moderate mature size, the Kwanzan cherry is suitable for smaller yards compared to some other flowering cherry varieties. Kwanzan cherry trees require full sun for optimal flowering. They require minimal maintenance once established but may need occasional pruning to maintain shape and remove dead or diseased branches.

Our Kwanzan Cherry Tree
Our Kwanzan Cherry tree arrived soon after we ordered it, and we were very impressed that it was so well-packaged. However, we were quite disappointed when we found all the growth on the tree was withered and brown. However, we immediately put the tree into water, and planter it the next day. However, after a few weeks of watching it, and carefully watering it, the growth is still all withered and brown. We'll keep trying to bring it back, but it is disappointing, when I had hoped for a healthy and green tree!
