Spicebush (Lindera benzoin) is a versatile and beautiful native shrub that thrives in the eastern and central United States. It’s known for its year-round interest, offering attractive features throughout the seasons. Spicebush boasts vibrant green foliage in spring and summer, transitioning to a stunning yellow display in fall. Its clusters of bright red berries add a pop of color in winter, attracting birds and providing a festive touch. The early-blooming yellow flowers provide valuable nectar and pollen for native bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The fruits are a favorite food source for birds like robins and cedar waxwings.
This adaptable shrub requires minimal care, thriving in partial shade to full sun and tolerating a variety of soil conditions. It’s also deer and rabbit-resistant, making it a worry-free addition to your landscape. Spicebush serves as a host plant for the caterpillars of several butterfly species, including the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and Spicebush Swallowtail, contributing to a healthy ecosystem. Spicebush is ideal for borders, foundation plantings, woodland gardens, and naturalized areas. It can also be used in rain gardens or pollinator gardens.

Customer Reviews
Nice bush!
The bushes arrived healthy and well-packaged. One of them got a little crispy after planting due to the dry conditions, but it has rebounded nicely and I’m looking forward to seeing both bushes flourish in my garden.
